Director Bryan Singer has been fired from the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after an on-set fight with star Rami Malek and for not returning to work after the U.S. Thanksgiving break.
"Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody," Twentieth Century Fox confirmed in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Tension grew on set due to the director's absence during several occasions and production of the film was halted due to Singer's "unexpected unavailability." His rep issued a statement explaining his absence was due to “a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family.”
Cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel was forced to step in when Singer was a no-show and Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, quit the film briefly due to Singer's behaviour.
Singer almost got physical with Malek, who plays Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
Producers are expected to name a new director in a few days. The film is scheduled for released next Christmas.
