Disturbed frontman David Draiman is campaigning to belt out the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl LIV in February.
“I’ve dreamt of doing it my entire life,” the 46-year-old rocker told Loudwire. “Been rehearsing it since I was a little boy.
“I love my country, and I would be honoured beyond words to have the opportunity to try and inspire, strengthen, and give hope, at a time when we need those things more than ever.”
On Saturday, Disturbed tweeted a link to a Billboard poll about who should perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the big game and urged fans to type in Draiman’s name. (Currently Brendon Urie leads the way.)
Previous anthem singers include Pink, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson. Only two male artists – Billy Joel and Luke Bryan – have performed the anthem solo since 1998.
The Super Bowl LIV halftime show will feature Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Draiman told Loudwire he would like to see rock music represented at Super Bowl “and to prove to everyone that there ARE rock singers out there who can do the anthem as much justice as ANY pop artists out there, and even possibly take it higher.”
