Country music icon Dolly Parton is mourning the loss of her younger brother, Floyd Parton, who died last week at 61.
Floyd was a songwriter who penned “Rockin’ Years,” his famous sister’s 1991 duet with Ricky Van Shelton, as well as “Nickels and Dimes.”
In a statement, Parton said the family held a funeral for "our sweet baby brother" on Monday. "We all sang his lovely song, ‘Rocking Years,’ together as a family at the service to say goodbye to him,” she shared. “He lived a short life of love and beautiful songs."
A cause of death was not made public but last month Radar Online reported that Floyd was in critical condition in a Tennessee hospital with “a mystery illness.”
An obituary described Floyd, who died Dec. 6, as an avid outdoorsman and “incredible cook.”
