Even at 74, Dolly Parton is a trendsetter.
The country music icon – or, more likely, the person who manages her social media – sparked a viral meme challenge this week with an Instagram post shared with her 2.6 million followers.
It shows images of Parton representing four social media platforms: LinkedIn (Parton as a schoolteacher on an episode of her 1987 variety series Dolly); Facebook (Parton modelling a “Hello Dolly” Christmas sweater in 2016); Instagram (Parton in a throwback pic used on the cover of the 2017 book Not Dumb, Not Blonde: Dolly In Conversation); and Tinder (Parton in a pic from a Playboy shoot in 1978).
“Get a woman who can do it all,” read the caption.
Almost immediately, others on Instagram set out to create similar memes showing off their professional, wholesome, stylish and sultry sides.
Parton's goddaughter Miley Cyrus shared her version late Thursday. Other music stars getting in on the action include Janet Jackson
Stars like Ellen DeGeneres, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Garner, Naomi Campbell, Mark Ruffalo, Kristin Chenoweth, Gordon Ramsay and Mindy Kaling took up the challenge – as did TV host and iHeartRadio personality Ryan Seacrest.
Also popular were posts of people’s pets.
Even Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario got in on the act. “Never not inspired by Dolly Parton,” it captioned a set of portraits of various women.
