U.S. president Donald Trump gave rapper Lil Pump an awkward introduction at his final campaign rally Monday night in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
After pointing out 71-year-old rocker Ted Nugent in the crowd (“I love your sound, I love your music,” Trump claimed), the president told his MAGA crowd about the presence of “one of the big superstars of the world.”
Trump then introduced “Little Pimp,” who he encouraged to come up to the platform.
“There he is. How’s it going? Do you want to come up and say something? Do you want to? Come on,” Trump said, before finally getting his name right. “Lil Pump. Come on up here. Come on up here.”
Lil Pump, aka 20-year-old Gazzy Garcia, had success with 2017’s “Gucci Gang” and 2018’s “I Love It” ft. Kanye West.
Perhaps noticing a lack of name recognition in the crowd, Trump asked: “Does everyone know who he is? Do you know how big he is?”
Lil Pump came to the mic and inexplicably thanked Trump for “bringing the troops home” (U.S. military expert Michael O’Hanlon told BBC News that troops “remain everywhere that we were on January 20, 2017 when he took office”) before telling the crowd: “Do not vote for Sleepy Joe… at all!”
At least Lil Pump can now boast about having a real photo with Trump. Last week, the rapper Photoshopped himself into a 2017 photo showing Trump shaking hands with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and captioned it: “THE DAY I MET TRUMP.”
