Drake has beens slapped with a lawsuit accusing him of stealing a beat.
Samuel Nicholas III, who goes by Sam Skully, filed a copyright infringement claim in U.S. District Court in Louisiana. He alleges Drake’s Scorpion hits “Nice For What” and “In My Feelings” contain a sample of a beat he created for a 2000 track titled “Roll Call.”
Nicholas said he recognized his beat in an interview with the songs’ co-producer Adam J. Pigott (aka BlaqNmilD) that was posted last summer on YouTube. He alleges the songs infringe his copyright “by directly copying the substantial entirety of ‘Roll Call (Instrumental).’”
He is seeking profits from both songs as well as damages.
The lawsuit also names as defendants producer Freddie Ross (aka Big Freedia) as well as record labels and publishers.
None of the defendants have responded publicly to the lawsuit, which was filed on Aug. 21.
