Canadian talent shines at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Nominations were announced Monday and Drake, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara and Jessie Reyez are among those with videos being recognized.
Drake’s “God’s Plan” earned nominations for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Video with a Message, Best Hip Hop, and Best Direction. The Toronto rap superstar is also vying for Artist of the Year against Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Camila Cabello, Cardi B and Post Malone.
In the Best Hip Hop category, Drake is featured on nominated Migos track “Walk It Talk It.”
Mendes’ “In My Blood” is up for Best Pop, Best Cinematography and Best Direction.
Alessia Cara’s “Growing Pains” earned a nod for Best Cinematography and the Ontario singer is featured with Khalid on Logic’s “1-800-273-8255,” which is nominated for Best Collaboration and Video with a Message.
Jessie Reyez’s “Gatekeeper” is also nominated in the Video with a Message category.
Topping the list of nominees is Cardi B, who earned 10, followed by The Carters and Childish Gambino with seven. Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello are tied with five each.
The VMAs will be handed out Aug. 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. For all the nominations, click here.
