Canada’s Drake earned eight nominations for the 2018 American Music Awards, which were announced Wednesday, including Artist of the Year and Favourite Male Artist.
Also representing Canada at the AMAs is Shawn Mendes with two nominations (Favourite Social Artist and Favourite Artist - Adult Contemporary) and The Weeknd with one (Favourite Male Artist - Soul/R&B).
Drake is tied with Cardi B to lead the nominees. His hit “God’s Plan” is up for Video of the Year, Favourite Song - Pop/Rock and Favourite Song - Rap/Hip-Hop, while Scorpion has nods for Favourite Album - Pop/Rock and Favourite Album Rap/Hip-Hop.
Drake has won five AMAs from 26 previous nominations. Mendes has won one and The Weeknd has two.
Other top nominees include Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Post Malone.
The AMAs, hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, will air Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
