Drake is getting into the cannabis biz.
The Toronto rap superstar will announce this week details about his latest venture, More Life Growth Co.
On Tuesday, Drake took to Instagram to post a photo of the Eden Project biodomes in Cornwall, England and directed followers to a new Instagram account for More Life.
(A spokesperson for the tourist attraction told Cornwall Live: “We have been made aware of the Instagram post. We have not authorised the use of the picture or been asked if it could be used. We don’t have any connection with Drake’s business either.”)
The launch of More Life Growth Co. is also being hyped this week with deliveries of floral bouquets to media outlets in Canada, where cannabis has been legal since October 2018.
The Canadian government issued a trademark on Monday for the brand, which will sell “cannabis products and accessories, medical cannabis, THC and CBD” as well as “rolling papers, Hookah tobacco, Hookahs, Oral vaporizers for smoking purposes [and] smoking pipes.”
More Life also plans to market herbal teas and “herbs for medicinal purposes; Medicinal herb extracts; Medicinal herbs in dried or preserved form” and “dried plants.”
There are also plans for a full line of branded apparel, including footwear, outerwear, dresses and business suits.
More Life Growth Co. was also registered in the U.S. last month.
Last year, Drake's producer and OVO Sound co-founder Noah Shebib launched his own cannabis line, BLLRDR. "I've been on the forefront of pushing a cannabis agenda for a long time," Shebib said in a video he shared on Instagram. "Cannabis is something that helps people, makes people feel better."
But, in a 2012 interview with The Guardian, Drake seemed to downplay his own marijuana use. "Have I smoked weed? Yes ... But do I do it excessively? No. I’m not a reckless guy. I do it all within moderation,” he said.
In 2016, Drake partnered with Proximo Spirits to launch Virginia Black, a bourbon-based whiskey.
