Drake delivers a fiery performance of “Gyalchester” tonight on the Billboard Music Awards, backed by the famous fountains of the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
The Canadian rap superstar does the More Life track from a platform in front of the fountains as flames shoot into the air and fireworks blast off. With him is fellow Toronto native Baka (real name Travis Savoury), who was arrested in 2014 as part of a human trafficking investigation.
The performance Saturday night (for Sunday’s live broadcast) was months in the making.
“It’s gonna be a very, very big moment in the show. It’s not a surprise necessarily but it’s gonna be a moment that people aren’t exactly expecting,” Mark Bracco, executive producer of the Billboard Music Awards, told Billboard. “It’ll be memorable, I promise you that.
"Drake does not perform on television very often so I think whenever he does it's a real event.”
In fact, this will be Drake’s first awards show performance since he joined Rihanna on stage at the BRITs last year.
He leads the way Sunday with an astonishing 22 Billboard Music Awards nominations.
“Drake deserves ... a big, huge moment and, luckily, in working with his team I think we’ve come up with something creatively that’s going to be really astounding,” Bracco said.
