It was a bit of a soul-sucking Sunday night for Drake and The Weeknd.
The Canadian artists were shut out at the 2016 Soul Train Awards, which were handed out in Las Vegas.
The Weeknd lost in the R&B/Soul Male Artist category to Maxwell.
For Video of the Year, Beyoncé’s “Formation” beat out Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and the made-in-Toronto video for “Work” by Rihanna feat. Drake.
Drake also lost to Beyoncé for Album/Mixtape of the Year — her Lemonade beat his Views.
The Toronto rapper’s “Controlla” was up for the Rhythm & Bars Award (formerly Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year) but lost to “All the Way Up” by Fat Joe & Remy Ma feat. French Montana and Infrared.
The track was topped by Beyoncé’s “Formation” for Song of the Year, too.
Drake’s viral moves in the “Hotline Bling” video weren’t enough to take the Best Dance Performance award, which went to Kanye West’s “Fade” (for Teyana Taylor’s performance).
He also lost Best Collaboration — “For Free” by DJ Khaled feat. Drake and “Work” by Rihanna feat. Drake were among the nominees — to “All The Way Up.”
