Dua Lipa says she uses social media “in bite sizes” because of the vitriol that permeates platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
“Some days I don’t read into the comments, some days maybe I feel a little bit more vulnerable and I dive in and I almost go looking for things that I don’t want to see,” the 24-year-old singer told BBC Breakfast. “It’s human nature.”
Lipa, who recently debuted “Don’t Start Now” from the forthcoming follow-up to her 2017 self-titled debut album, called for more kindness.
“Social media can be such an amazing tool and it can be so fun to share things but at the same time … it’s like almost a breeding ground for hate and anxiety,” she said. “And people feel like they can say things because they’re hiding behind a computer screen.
“We should encourage kindness and protect our fans and protect ourselves – just be nicer to one another. I feel like we'd all have a much better experience on social media if that was the case.”
Last month, Billie Eilish took to Instagram Stories to urge her fans to be more kind on social media. “Just be nicer to each other for real,” she said.
