Ed Sheeran has been teasing that new music is coming today for the past week -- and the day has FINALLY ARRIVED!
The singer/songwriter didn't just give us one new song ... he gave us TWO!! Sheeran debuted two new songs from his upcoming album ÷ (divide) called "Castle On The Hill" and "Shape Of You."
At the stroke of midnight on Jan. 6, as promised, Sheeran tweeted, "Cause I’ve been away for a bit here’s two singles rather than one," along with a 10-second mashup video of both tracks.
This is Sheeran's first new music since he released his album x (multiply) in 2014, and his 2015 collaboration with Rudimental "Lay It All On Me."
In a press release, Sheeran said of the two new singles:
"Hello 2017! I’ve been working hard on the new material and I hope you can be as excited about it as Iam. I really wanted to show two different sides to my music that I’m equally as passionate about and Ijust knew I wanted to roll with two songs at the same time. I’m absolutely buzzing to be back."
"Castle On The Hill"
"Castle On The Hill" is an upbeat coming of age tune with fast guitar riffs that you will definitely find yourself rocking out to. The track was written and produced by Sheeran and Benny Blanco is reminiscent of past memories as Sheeran belts out lyrics like "When I was six years old, I broke my leg/I was running from my brother and his friends/Tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass as I rolled down."
In the song's chorus, Sheeran sings, "I'm on my way/Driving at 90 down those country lanes/Singing to Tiny Dancer/And I miss the way you make me feel/And it's real/We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill."

"Shape Of You"
"Shape Of You" is a little different from "Castle on the Hill." The song, co-written with Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac and produced by Steve and co-produced by Sheeran, showcases more of an almost tropical rhythm featuring a loop pedal and very sultry lyrics. Sheeran sings in falsetto, "I'm in love with the shape of you/We push and pull like magnet do/Although my heart is falling too/I'm in love with your body/Last night you were in my room/And now my bed sheets smell like you/Everyday discovering something new/I'm in love with your body."

This is only the beginning of new Ed Sheeran music. His forthcoming album is expected to be released sometime this year. And if it sounds anything like these songs, then we and the rest of the #Sheerios out there can't wait to hear the rest!
