If you build it, they will wed.
Ed Sheeran, who announced in January that he is engaged to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, has submitted an application to construct a chapel on his estate in the East Anglia region of England.
The 27-year-old singer has applied to Suffolk Coastal District Council for permission to build a Saxon-style chapel, made of flint, with a 14.6-metre round tower. It would include space for about 24 people.
“It is every person’s right to be able to have a place of retreat for contemplation and prayer, for religious observance, celebration of key life and family milestones, marriages, christenings and so forth,” the documents read.
The application pointed out that Sheeran and his "high profile" guests have a "need for discretion" that they could not get at the local church. "The applicant seeks to provide both a religious and an ecumenical space in which he, his family and these different people (his guests) can retreat for contemplation or worship in peace and safety from disturbance."
Sheeran's property near Framlingham already consists of several buildings. Last September, he secured permission to build a private pub (accessible via an underground tunnel), multi-car garage, indoors pool and treehouse.
The Council will rule on the application in April.
