Ed Sheeran is celebrating his entry into a very exclusive club. The U.K. singer has just notched 1 billion streams for his hit single “Shape of You” on Spotify. He joins only two others who have achieved such a feat: Drake, with “One Dance” and The Chainsmokers with their Halsey collab, “Closer”.
Sheeran recently joined late night host James Corden for a bout of Carpool Karaoke, where the pair sang "Sing," "Love Yourself" and "Castle on the Hill", among others. He might not even know that he’s knocked out six-figure streams on the service, since he’s essentially admitted to being a Luddite.
"I'd wake up every morning and there would be like 50 messages and none of them would say 'hey, how are you doing?'" he revealed of his reasons behind not owning a cell phone. "It'd be like, 'Can I have this? Can you lend me this? Can you do this? Can I get this?' and it was fine at the beginning but then it just got really really draining."
The “Galway Girl” singer also spoke about an unfortunate run-in with Justin Bieber while playing golf. “We ended up at this golf course,” Sheeran recalled on the segment. “And [Bieber] put a golf ball in his mouth and said, ‘Go on – hit it out!’” Sheeran ended up “cracking him across the face.”
Instead of getting angry, Bieber “was actually really cool about it,” Sheeran said. Watch his Carpool Karaoke segment below:
