Ed Sheeran recently surprised some UK music students by popping into their virtual lesson.
According to Timothy Spoerer, the music director at Ecclesbourne Primary School in London, the singer-songwriter answered questions and taught the children how to play some of his hit songs on guitar during the Zoom session.
“I basically wasn’t very smart at school I thought I was an idiot for a very long time,” Sheeran told the students, according to The Sun. “I couldn’t do maths, science and English and I was told to be successful in life you had to do those things.”
Sheeran said his father encouraged him to work “really hard” at being a musician.
“I loved playing music, that’s what made me happiest,” he recalled. “I wanted to make music my job but it was a lot of hard work and struggling; essentially the way I got my income and paid my bills was by playing covers at weddings.”
During the Zoom session, Sheeran reportedly told students he would not be releasing music until “some time next year” because he needs a year off for “getting back to normal life.”
