Elton John’s reps announced on Thursday that the remaining U.S. dates on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This tough decision has been made with the continued safety and well-being of his fans at a time when health services are under increased pressure,” read a tweet, “and with the concern that these gatherings continue to risk accelerating the spread of the coronavirus.”
The music legend will bump 25 concerts scheduled for May 22 to July 8 to next year. Last month, John postponed 19 shows between March 26 and May 2, including two in Toronto and two in Montreal.
Fans are being urged to hold on to their tickets, which will be honoured for the rescheduled shows in 2021.
“Elton promises to continue performing live for all his dedicated fans around the world again and thanks you for your endless support,” his team tweeted.
The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in September 2018 and was scheduled to wrap up in early 2021.
Earlier this month, John announced that his eponymous AIDS foundation has created a $1 million U.S. emergency fund to protect people with HIV during the COVID-19 pandemic. The singer has also participated in two COVID-19 fundraising specials, the iHeart Living Room Concert and One World: Together At Home.
