Elton John has cancelled concerts after contracting a bacterial infection while on tour.
The 70-year-old music icon reportedly spent two nights in intensive care after falling ill on a flight back from South America.
According to a statement from his rep, the infection was “rare and potentially deadly.
“Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully.”
Now resting at home in the UK, John is “expected to make a full and complete recovery.”
The singer plans to return to the stage on June 3 but shows scheduled for Las Vegas and California in the meantime have been scrapped.
”I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well," John said in a statement, which also offered an apology to his “loyal” fans.
John is married to Canadian David Furnish.
