Sir Elton John made one Vancouver record store very happy Thursday (Mar. 9) when he walked out with over $1400 worth of records.
The British singer entered Beat Street Records in downtown Vancouver through a back entrance, and his security detail asked the manager to lock the front door so John could peruse the racks in privacy.
"I came in from the back and there was Elton John standing there with his two bodyguards, digging through records," Beat Street Records manager Lindsay Tomchyshen told the CBC.
It didn’t take long for a small crowd of admirers to amass outside the shop. So what was he looking for?
"He asked my boss if we had any Tech N9ne, like, the gangster rapper and I was not expecting that," Tomchyshen added.
Unfortunately, the store didn’t stock any Tech N9ne on vinyl, so the “Tiny Dancer” singer opted for all of the 1980s British pop band Scritti Politti the store had along with some Little Feat, Devine Brown, Linda Ronstadt, and Morris Day. He didn’t leave until he had amassed a large pile, racking up a tab of over $1400 Canadian dollars.
Before leaving through the back entrance, John signed a copy of his 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
