Eminem is boldly taking on U.S. gun laws in “Darkness,” which premiered Friday along with a disturbing video that mirrors the 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.
The track is one of 20 on the rap star’s surprise album, Music to Be Murdered By – which takes its name from director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 compilation.
“If you’d like to know the reason why I did this / You’ll never find a motive,” Eminem raps. “Truth is I have no idea / I am just as stumped / No signs of mental illness / Just trying to show you the reason we are so f**ked.”
The video, directed by James Larese, ends with ‘When will this end? When enough people care” and urges Americans to register to vote. “Make your voice heard and help change gun laws in America.”
Produced by Dr. Dre, Music to Be Murdered By is a follow-up to Eminem’s 2018 album Kamikaze and features guests like Ed Sheeran (on “Those Kinda Nights”), Skylar Grey (“Leaving Heaven”), Anderson.Paak (“Lock It Up”) and the late Juice Wrld (“Godzilla”).
