Eminem wasn’t kidding when he rapped in last year’s “The Ringer” that he had been questioned by the U.S. Secret Service.
On the Kamikaze track, Eminem claimed: “Agent Orange just sent the Secret Service / To meet in person to see if I really think of hurtin’ him / Or ask if I’m linked to terrorists / I said, ‘Only when it comes to ink and lyricists.’”
This week, the Secret Service provided 40 pages of heavily-redacted documents to BuzzFeed News in response to a Freedom of Information Act filing that confirmed agents met with the rapper and his lawyers on Jan. 16, 2018.
They were concerned about “threatening lyrics” about U.S. president Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump in Eminem’s track “Framed” from 2017’s Revival. The investigation was sparked by a TMZ reporter who contacted the Secret Service seeking a comment about the song.
The agency’s report noted: ““This is not the first time [Eminem] made threatening comments towards POTUS and his family. In June 2017, [Eminem] freestyled comments that were threatening in nature towards POTUS.” That’s a reference to the rapper’s powerful video that aired during the BET Awards.
In the end, the Secret Service decided Eminem was not a threat to the president or his family and did not to refer the case to federal prosecutors.
