Eminem’s surprise album Kamikaze has debuted at No. 1.
The collection that dropped on Aug. 31 tops the Billboard 200 chart dated Sept. 15 thanks to 434,000 equivalent album units.
Kamikaze bested Eminem’s previous album, Revival, which was No. 1 upon its release but sold fewer copies.
The surprise album has come under fire for Eminem’s use of a gay slur directed at rapper Tyler, The Creator. It also features Canada’s Jessie Reyez on two tracks – “Nice Guy” and “Good Guy.”
It is the ninth Eminem album to top the chart, putting him in a fifth-place tie with Garth Brooks and The Rolling Stones. Only The Beatles, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand, and Elvis Presley have more.
The new Billboard 200 has Travis Scott’s Astroworld at No. 2, Drake’s Scorpion at No. 3, Troye Sivan’s Bloom at No. 4 and Ariana Grande’s Sweetener at No. 5.
