Vivek Ramaswamy did not own it, so he had to let it go.
After rapping along to Eminem's “Lose Yourself” during his appearance at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month, the Republican presidential candidate has been sent a cease and desist by the Detroit rapper, demanding the politician to stop performing his lyrics on the campaign trail.
In a letter sent to Ramaswamy's team, Eminem and music licenser BMI objected to the campaign's use of his music. “BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” it added.
Biotech millionaire Ramaswamy is considered a frontrunner to win the Republican candidacy and has grown a strong following thanks to his social media savvy. He responded to news of the rapper's cease and desist on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "Will The REAL Slim Shady Please Stand Up? He didn’t just say what I think he did, did he? @Eminem "
Eminem might have a problem with politicians using his music, but he seems fine with NFL players spitting his lyrics. The other day he reposted a clip from this season's Hard Knocks of New York Jets rookie wide receiver Jerome Kapp performing his freestyle from the film 8 Mile.
