Madonna continues to express herself on social media in ways that have some fans trying to justify their love.
In an Instagram montage of photos and video clips set to “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges, the 64-year-old pop star is seen in a food pantry squatting over a bottle of sriracha sauce and licking water from a dog bowl on the floor.
“They say licking from a dog's bowl with heavy filters on your face is the new 40,” joked James Parrish in the comments section of the post.
Someone else complained about the message Madonna is sending to young women. “Being sexy is one thing..licking put of a dog bowl?? Really?? It's is embarrassing and degrading to yourself and women!”
Madonna’s increasingly bizarre behaviour – and altered appearance – have some longtime fans feeling betrayed.
“It’s not easy to be your fan anymore,” wrote one.
Laura Massoli agreed. “I have been your fan since I was a kid.. and I just cannot accept this garbage style,” she commented. “No class.. no elegance you have created for yourself! It has no meaning.. no depth.. this is not Art.. this is you destroying the Iconic Madonna that you created!”
Another fan opined: “After 40 years of being an artist, your form of visual art went down to licking a dog bowl !! If your creatively dried out..let it be.. don't ruin it for your lifetime fans who are used to getting the best out of you... You have no idea how much it hurts to see you so desperate, destroying your legacy.”
Longtime fan Charie Poderoso lamented that “the iconic Madonna is now long gone.” She opined: “No longer there is a sense of element, mystery, uniqueness and style in work. Her recent postings show lack of humility, poise and grace..and only a pathetic sense of desperation that begs for humiliation and disgust amongst her fans … her sense of creativity is far gone and only replaced with vulgarity to seek attention!! SAD doesn’t even do any justice to describe what I’m seeing.”
At least one person was more direct, writing: “What's wrong with you…”
Of course, not everyone is mad at Madge.
"She always Madonna. You changed not her," read one comment. "You were in love with her body and with some albums not with MADONNA.
You are gorgeous Madonna."
