Matthew Knowles, the father of singers Beyoncé and Solange, is battling breast cancer.
The 67-year-old went public with the diagnosis in an interview that will air Wednesday on Good Morning America.
Breast cancer in men is rare – accounting for less than one per cent of all cases – and mostly strikes men over 60. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, there will be 230 new cases of breast cancer in men in Canada this year and 55 of them will die from the disease.
Knowles was the manager of Destiny’s Child and then Beyoncé up until 2011. He divorced Tina Knowles that year after more than three decades of marriage and married Gena Avery.
