The Foreigner musical Jukebox Hero is heading to Toronto.
Mick Jones, the 73-year-old founding member of Foreigner, will be at the Sony Centre for the Performing on the morning of March 22 for the official announcement (Foreigner is performing at the venue that night).
Last October, Jones was in Calgary to talk about premiering Jukebox Hero in Alberta. It’s scheduled to run Aug. 10-12 in Calgary and Aug. 16-19 in Edmonton.
In Toronto, it will open at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in February 2019.
The musical uses about a dozen Foreigner songs to tell the story of a struggling small town in America’s rust belt that attracts new industry thanks to a rock band.
Written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, Jukebox Hero will be directed by Randy Johnson and will feature an all-Canadian cast.
In addition to the titular 1982 song, the show includes hits like “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You” and “Hot Blooded.”
Producers hope to take Jukebox Hero to Broadway and London’s West End.
