Canadian musician Randy Rampage, former bassist for punk band D.O.A. died Tuesday evening in Vancouver. He was 58.
Rampage, whose real name was Randall Archibald, was reportedly found sitting in his favourite chair after coming home from his job in the Port of Vancouver.
Although his death is being reported as a heart attack, no official cause has been revealed.
Duff McKagan of Guns ’N Roses reacted to Rampage’s death on Twitter, calling him a “legend.”
Rampage – who played drums in high school with his buddy Bryan Adams – was a founding member of D.O.A. in 1978 and toured with the band throughout U.S. and Canada, including an opening gig for The Clash. He played on 1980’s Something Better Change and the follow-up Hardcore ’81 but was fired from the band on New Year’s Day in 1982.
Rampage played off-and-on with Annihilator over the next decade, including on the band’s debut album Alice in Hell.
He returned to record D.O.A.’s 2002 Win the Battle album but left again, only to come back in 2006. But, just as the band prepped to go on a 30th anniversary tour in 2008, Rampage was out again.
In his memoir I Survived D.O.A., Rampage opened up about being a fully functioning heroin user for many years.
