Musicians are paying tribute to David Cassidy, the “I Think I Love You” singer who died Tuesday at 67.
“There were times in the mid-1970s when he would come over to my house and we even started writing a song together,” shared Brian Wilson on Twitter. “He was a very talented and nice person.”
Harry Connick Jr. tweeted: “He was always so kind to me. Such a pleasure to have had him on my show.”
Cassidy had been hospitalized in Florida prior to his death, according to his publicist. “David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long,” she said in a statement. “Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”
Born into a show business family, Cassidy rose to fame on the TV series The Partridge Family, which ran for four seasons in the early ‘70s. The act scored Top 10 hits like “I Think I Love You,” “Doesn’t Somebody Want To Be Wanted” and “I’ll Meet You Halfway.”
As a solo artist, Cassidy released a dozen studio albums. He worked in theatre and had Las Vegas shows.
“Met him at a gig about 10 years ago and he was incredibly warm and gracious,” tweed singer Richard Marx.
Earlier this year, Cassidy revealed that he had early stage dementia.
The singer-actor leaves behind his daughter, actress Katie Cassidy, and son Beau.
