Bruce Williamson, who spent nearly a decade as lead singer of The Temptations, died Sunday in Las Vegas from complications of COVID-19. He was 49.
“There's no words in the world that can express how I feel right now,” the singer’s son Bruce Williamson Jr. shared in a Facebook post. “I love you Daddy thank you for being awesome thank you for being loving thank you for being Who You Are.”
Williamson replaced G.C. Cameron in The Temptations in 2006 and remained with the group until 2015.
“I didn’t want to be an imitation or one who impersonates my predecessors,” he told Chapter & Verse in 2016. “I wanted to be myself.”
The Temptations, formed in Detroit in 1960, had hits like “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."
