Hands up if you did not know that Limp Bizkit's "Nookie" was written as a love song? According to Fred Durst, fans have misunderstood the song's message, thinking it was about something else for the past 25 years.
The nu-metal icon dropped this bombshell during his interview with Dazed, when he was asked about the song, saying people didn't actually listen to lyrics and just focused on the popular catchphrase that rose from the chorus.
"The funny thing about that though, nobody listened to the story in 'Nookie' they just listened to the catchphrase," Durst said. "It’s like when I say Rage Against The Machine they listen to “fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me”, they don’t listen to the rest of it."
Durst explained that he wrote the song about a relationship, and the title and chorus came from him trying to put a spin on his expression to make it a little more fun.
"Nookie. The first time I had been intimate with someone it happened later and I was very much head over heels in love because of that and I was just that guy," he admitted. "I was very much a vulnerable person in that world and I couldn’t believe it even happened. So I fell in love and then this person was sleeping with other people and people would say ‘Fred, you’re so upset, why are you staying?’ and I’d say ‘because, we made love’ and I found a different way to say that: I did it all for the nookie. That sounded more fun. So what I did it for then was the love."
In other Durst-related news, yesterday (December 11) the Limp Bizkit frontman gave an unexpected response to news that the Bank of Canada cut its interest rates this week.
When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted about the drop in rates, adding that it was, "A step in the right direction to bring down costs for Canadians," out of nowhere the non-Canadian Durst shared his approval on X, replying, "Nice."
Nice indeed.
