Garth Brooks has announced a new album, Time Traveler, set for release on November 7. And in usual Garth Brooks fashion it will be released in a most unusual way.
The country music legend has long avoided conventional routes of releasing his music, giving exclusive streaming rights to Amazon Music and faithfully choosing physical as his format of choice. But Time Traveler will see the singer-songwriter add a new twist to his business plan.
Packaged as a new instalment in his Limited Series, the new album will be collected as a seven-disc boxed set that will also include 2014’s Man Against Machine, both 2016’s Gunslinger and Fun, and 2019's Triple Live concert album. The real kicker is that the album will only be available to buy exclusively through Bass Pro Shops.
Brooks is no stranger to choosing exclusive retailers for his music. Gunslinger was originally for sale only at Target as the 10 CD box set, The Ultimate Collection. And Fun was packaged with Triple Live, sold exclusively at Amazon, Walmart, Target and Talk Shop Live.
But whereas those albums were made available on Amazon Music, Time Traveler will not.
In a statement Brooks said, “There are a lot of different eras on this album, thus the name. Country music’s core is sincerity. After that, you can dress it up a thousand different ways. I am so lucky to live under the flag of country music.”
