Garth Brooks said this week has no regrets about lip-synching his performance at the CMA Awards.
“If it happened again tomorrow I’d make the same decision,” he said during an appearance on Ellen.
Brooks explained that he recorded a vocal track a week earlier “just in case the voice was gone” on the night of the CMAs.
“We did 12 shows in 10 days and right in the middle of those 12 shows was CMAs,” he recalled. “We still had seven shows starting the next night.”
Brooks said he wanted to save his voice for fans who paid to see him live.
“Truth is, I love awards shows. I think they’re sweet, but for me they’re like the tree is to Christmas. They’re the symbol of it but they’re not what it’s all about,” the country superstar explained. “What it’s about is the people who put their butts in the seat, travel, fight that traffic, pay that parking…that’s who you want to save your voice for.
“So we made that decision.”
