Rush fans should not hold their breath for a collection of previously-unreleased music by the band.
“There’s actually not much in the vaults,” admitted Geddy Lee, frontman for the Canadian rock band, in a recent interview with the National Post. “ We were a band that used what we wrote and if we didn’t like what we were writing, we stopped writing it. So there are really no unreleased Rush songs that were worth a damn.
“Recording our songs was so difficult and ambitious that we didn’t do extra stuff and pick the best.”
Rush released 19 studio albums between 1974 and 2012 and wrapped up its final tour in 2015. Drummer Neil Peart, who retired shortly after the R40 Live tour ended, died in January at 67.
Lee said it is time to move on. “A lot has happened in my life and I’ve been incredibly fortunate. But one can’t keep looking back,” he said. “You still have to get on with your life and do new things.”
The 67-year-old released a solo album, My Favourite Headche, in 2000 but said he has “no firm plans to do anything right now.”
Lee added: “I go downstairs and play to keep my fingers juiced but that’s about as far as I’m going right now with it.”
