Gerard Way says My Chemical Romance is probably done for good.
“We definitely get offers regularly to reunite – it’s a constant thing,” the singer told The Guardian. “It’s flattering, it’s really nice of people. I miss playing with the guys, but I don’t think so.”
MCR called it quits in 2013 after releasing four studio albums, including 2006’s hit The Black Parade.
Way explained why he and his bandmates pulled the plug.
“I like being super-creative all the time, and, unfortunately, when you’re in a really big band you’re actually doing a lot of boring stuff, like being on the road and missing your family. A lot of it is business,” he explained.
Way describing songwriting as a “release” and a form of therapy. “And then it took off and became this uncontrollable thing,” he added.
“It wasn’t fun to make stuff any more.”
Umbrella Academy, the comic book series Way created with Gabriel Bá, has been turned into a live-action series – made in Toronto – on Netflix.
“It’s a little autobiographical, in terms of being about a dysfunctional family,” he explained. “Which is a lot like being in a band.”
