English singer Sarah Harding of the defunct pop group Girls Aloud revealed on Wednesday that she is battling cancer.
“I feel now is the right time to share what’s been going on,” the 38-year-old wrote in an Instagram post, alongside a photo of herself in a hospital.
“Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.”
Harding said she is undergoing weekly chemotherapy sessions “and I am fighting as hard as I possibly can.”
The singer, who released five studio albums with Girls Aloud between 2003 and 2008 and a solo EP in 2015, assured fans she is doing her best to stay positive.
“In the meantime I hope you’ll all understand and respect my request for privacy during this difficult time.”
Following the news, Harding's group mate Cheryl Cole tweeted a broken-heart emoji.
