Singer Gord Downie has been named the Canada’s Newsmaker of the Year for 2017.
The Tragically Hip frontman, who died of brain cancer in October, earned 53 per cent of the votes in a Canadian Press poll of news editors and broadcasters.
It’s the second consecutive year Downie earned the title.
Prime minister Justin Trudeau came in second with 13 per cent of the votes.
Downie spent his last months speaking out in support of Indigenous people in Canada.
