Canadian music legend Gordon Lightfoot announced Friday he is set to release his first album of new music in 16 years.
SOLO, which comes out March 20, showcases the 81-year-old singer and his guitar. His 21st studio album, it is the first since 2004’s Harmony.
Lightfoot found two CDs of songs he recorded nearly two decades ago in the office of his Toronto home. They were written in 2001 and 2002, just before he suffered a near-fatal abdominal aortic aneurysm.
"I thought my fans would be interested in hearing what songs sound like when first written,” he said, in a release.
Lightfoot recorded SOLO at Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ont.
The lead single is “Oh So Sweet.” Listen to it below.
Lightfoot is on tour south of the border from February through June but comes home for shows in Ottawa on April 15, Montreal on April 16 and in his native Orillia on April 18.
