This year’s Grammy Salute special will feature artists like John Legend, Alicia Keys and Usher performing the songs of the late Prince.
Rolling Stone reported Thursday that Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince will be taped in Los Angeles on Jan. 28 – two days after the Grammy Awards – for broadcast in April, the fourth anniversary of Prince's death.
The line-up will also include Beck, Common, Foo Fighters, H.E.R., Earth, Wind & Fire, St. Vincent, Mavis Staples, Chris Martin, Gary Clark Jr. and Juanes.
Prince’s band the Revolution will be involved and his former percussionist Sheila E will be musical director along with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Susanna Hoffs, whose group the Bangles had success with the Prince-penned “Manic Monday,” is also scheduled to take part in the special.
“Prince. The Purple One. His Royal Badness — regardless of how you identify him, he is indisputably one of the greatest musical virtuosos of all time,” said Recording Academy president and CEO Deborah Dugan, in a statement. "With his subversive attitude and commanding nature, he straddled musical genres and created electrifying music that was bursting with character.
“He continues to serve as an inspirational icon for artists and fans worldwide, and we are so honoured to pay tribute to his legacy.”
Previous Grammy Salute specials have honoured the Bee Gees, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles and Aretha Franklin.
During his life, Prince won seven Grammy Awards.
