Green Day is getting involved in Canada’s favourite sport.
The National Hockey League announced Monday it has signed a two-year marketing and promotional partnership deal with the band.
“This NHL season is hereby known as LOUD season...where the toughest athletes to ever lace up a pair of skates meet the baddest rock band on the planet,” read a statement from Green Day.
Green Day will debut “Fire, Ready, Aim” off its forthcoming album Father Of All… as the theme for Wednesday night hockey broadcasts during the 2019-20 season. The show opener includes cameos by several NHL stars, including Canada’s Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews.
The NHL will also use songs from Green Day’s new album in its broadcasts, ad campaigns and arenas – and the band will perform at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis in January.
Green Day was booked to perform at the opening ceremonies of the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto in 2016 but was forced to cancel on short notice due to illness.
