A new musical based on the grunge era will be coming to Seattle Repertory Theatre, reports Variety.
It will be set in the ’90s and will feature songs from bands who pioneered the grunge movement, from Nirvana and Soundgarden to the Smashing Pumpkins and Alice In Chains.
The story will be fictional, centering around the grunge movement, though no further details are currently available. The Theatre will have access to pre-existing songs from the legendary grunge rockers through BMG’s publishing catalogue.
Manage This Media’s Janet Billig Rich, former manager of Nirvana, and BMG exec Elyse Cogan are part of the production team putting the musical together.
The late Chris Cornell’s recent death once again put the grunge era in the forefront of everyone’s mind. While it’s not clear what kind of timeline the story will cover, the musical will certainly touch on Cornell’s influence as part of the scene.
No title, cast or dates have yet been announced.
