Guns N’ Roses have just joined an exclusive group of artists: the rockers have broken into the 400 club – that is, spending 400 nonconsecutive weeks on the Billboard charts.
Their 2004 album, Greatest Hits, has just entered its 400th week on the chart since they began.
They are just beat by Metallica’s self-titled album, which has logged 432 weeks on the charts. Of course, they don’t even come close to others who have surpassed the same achievement.
Those albums include Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon (927), Johnny Mathis' Johnny’s Greatest Hits (490), the My Fair Lady original cast recording (480), Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend (471), and Journey’s Greatest Hits (462).
On Friday (June 3), the band covered Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” at their Lisbon concert, paying tribute to the late Chris Cornell.
“Chris was great,” Slash told Music Radar. “'Promise' was probably the most unorthodox piece of music that I'd written, it was very different. It was one of those things, I don't know why I thought of him for that song more than any of the others, but I sent it to him and within 48 hours he sent me this great lyric and we were off and running. It was as simple as that. Everybody seems to like this one.”
