This past weekend, Halsey shared an open letter on Twitter listing personal reasons for joining the Women’s March in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to have supported Planned Parenthood as one of the many causes that put me on the streets of Washington D.C. today,” she shared to her 3.8 million followers.
She also offered to donate one dollar to Planned Parenthood for every retweet the letter received, up to a maximum of $100,000.
In a matter of hours, the tweet had been retweeted more than 100,000 times. Halsey followed up on her promise.
The 22-year-old singer has been very public in her battle with endometriosis, a disease that, she wrote, “ravages the reproductive organs.”
In her letter, she wrote that Planned Parenthood was central in providing her treatment for the disease, which she says led to “the emotional and physical hell of a miscarriage at 20 years old.”
The donation comes on the heels of an executive order signed by Trump defunding International Planned Parenthood and foreign abortions. Halsey is still recovering from multiple surgeries earlier this month for her disease.
Her latest track, “Not Afraid Anymore” from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, is out now. Listen on Spotify.
