Organizers of the annual Heavy Montreal music festival announced on Thursday they are taking a break in 2020.
“It’s not an easy decision to put one of our events on pause,” said Jacques Aubé of evenko, in a release. “Several factors must be taken into consideration.”
Aubé said one of those factors is the number of non-festival metal/rock concerts that will be announced in the months to come.
Heavy Montreal debuted in 2008 and has, over the years, hosted acts like Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Metallica and Motörhead.
This isn’t the first time the two-day festival has taken a year off: There was no Heavy Montreal in 2017 and 2009.
In a tweet, festival organizers promised to “continue to present CRAZY rock & metal concerts throughout the city and the province all year round!”
Fans, meanwhile, are sharing their displeasure on social media.
"It was reported that 65,000 attended Heavy MTL 2019. Once again it goes on Hiatus, third time in a decade," reads one tweet. "Honestly at this point, just cancel the f**king thing if you keep doing this when it's successful/ unsuccessful. Or let someone else take over it."
