Jacob Hoggard, frontman for embattled Canadian band Hedley, has been accused of sexual assault.
A 24-year-old Ottawa woman told CBC News she found Hoggard on Tinder in 2016 and they communicated online for weeks before he sent her a train ticket to meet him in Toronto.
On Nov. 22, 2016, she met Hoggard at the Thompson Hotel. “Of course, I expected sex. I’m not naive – but he completely crossed the line.”
The woman claimed over five hours in the room, Hoggard assaulted and raped her several times.
She said the following day, back in Ottawa, she texted the singer and accused him of rape. She claimed he called her and told her not to contact him again and then blocked her number.

The woman told CBC News she did not file a police report but she told a friend about what happened and, on Nov. 28, was examined at a medical clinic.
She also wrote in a journal. “He knows I said no. I said stop,” reads one entry.

Hoggard’s lawyer Brian Shiller said in a statement that Hoggard and the woman “made a mutual plan to get together to have sex and they did just that” and “at no time did Jacob act badly or do anything without consent.”
Hoggard has not been charged with a criminal offence and none of the allegations has been tested in a court of law.
Since accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced online, Hedley has been dropped from the Juno Awards and from radio station playlists across the country.
In a Facebook post earlier this month, Hedley called the allegations “unsubstantiated” and said “there are at least two sides to every story.” Admitting they previously “engaged in a lifestyle that incorporated certain rock and roll clichés” they insisted “there was always a line that we would never cross.”
In another statement, Hedley conceded: “Saying a rock'n'roll lifestyle was to blame - or saying certain things happened because we were younger - isn't good enough. We owe it to our families, our crew, our friends - and most of all, our fans - to do and be better."
The band's Cageless tour is in Quebec City on Monday night and is scheduled to run until March 23.
