LITEYEARS is a Canadian band that consists of Brent Wirth, Brian Wirth, Adam Slinn, Nick Haberer and Joey Muha.
Their debut EP, American Towns, was released this summer and includes the single “Rhythm in the Stars.”
If you haven’t discovered LITEYEARS, here’s a little about the band and its members:
- The Toronto-based group was founded by brothers Brent and Brian Wirth, formerly of Hamilton, Ont. band Thought Beneath Film.
- Thought Beneath Film won the Slaight Music “It’s Your Shot” competition in 2012 and received $50,000 worth of professional services.
- LITEYEARS uses computers, keyboards and guitars in its music as well as traditional instruments like piano and glockenspiel.
- The title track is a call to action about pursuing dreams. “It’s kind of alarming not to hear kids having the outlandish visions in terms of what their life will be like. That dreamer gene seems to be dying out. It’s harder now to believe that things can be great and believe in those wild dreams," explained Brent Wirth, in a release.
- American Towns was mastered by Bob Ludwig, who has won 11 Grammy Awards and has worked on recordings for more than 1,300 artists including Led Zeppelin, Queen, Paul McCartney, Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen.
- The band created a video for each of the five songs on the EP using alternative instrumentations and arrangements. “We have done some really huge conceptual videos with some intricate performance concepts with a budget of next to nothing,” Brent Wirth said. “They are like hybrids of a live and a studio recording using different takes. We have used things like tympani drums, a string quartet, grand piano, a drum line from a marching band and for the song Zeitgeist a 40-piece concert orchestra.”

- All five videos were made in one weekend.
- Drummer Joey Muha is a YouTube star thanks to his cover videos. He currently has more than 44,000 subscribers. His drum cover of “I’m A Little Teapot” has been viewed more than 1 million times.
- The song “Silhouettes” is about living in the paradox where “the more connected we become through social media and technology, the more inhuman and disconnected we become in an emotional sense.”
LITEYEARS will perform Nov. 16 at The Drake in Toronto and Nov. 26 at Mills Hardware in Hamilton. Get more information here.
