High School Musical alumni Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale took two very different approaches this week to the COVID-19 crisis.
Hudgens went on social media Tuesday to apologize for downplaying the severity of the pandemic while Tisdale used social media to share some throwback HSM positivity.
Hudgens, who played Gabriella Montez in the Disney franchise, came under fire for opining in an Instagram Live that “even if everybody gets it, like yeah, people are going to die, which is terrible... but like inevitable?”
She returned to Instagram claiming her comments were taken out of context. "It's a crazy time. It's a crazy, crazy time, and I am at home and in lockdown,” she said. “And that's what I hope you guys are doing too, in full quarantine and staying safe and sane. I don't take this situation lightly by any means. I am home, so stay inside y’all.”
Hudgens then posted a formal apology. “I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram live yesterday,” she wrote. “I realize my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now.
“This has been a huge wake up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever.”

Tisdale, who played Sharpay Evans in HSM, shared a TiKTok video on Instagram showing her doing the dance moves to the first film’s anthemic finale “We’re All in This Together.”
“If you need to work out while on #selfquarantine try this,” the 34-year-old captioned the clip. “Hopefully this will brighten your day a little!”
Bart Johnson (Coach Bolton) took Tisdale’s challenge and shared a clip of his dance moves alongside hers.
“May the lasting effect of this great challenge be that THE WHOLE WORLD came together, reminded us that we are ALL brothers and sisters on the big blue rock,” he wrote.
KayCee Stroh (Martha Cox) also got her head in the game, backed by daughters Zetta and Lettie.
