Huey Lewis and the News last week cancelled their 2018 tour dates because the singer is suffering from an inner ear disorder.
“Two and a half months ago … I lost most of my hearing,” Lewis said in a statement shared on social media. “Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing.”
Lewis said doctors believe he has Meniere’s disease and “agreed that I can’t perform until I improve.”
The 67-year-old singer said he feels “horrible” about cancelling performances and apologized to fans who already purchased tickets.
“I’m going to concentrate on getting better,” he said, “and hope that one day soon I’ll be able to perform again.”
The group had 19 Top 10 hits in the 1980s and early 90s, including “The Power of Love,” “I Want a New Drug” and “The Heart of Rock & Roll” and “Stuck With You.”
