Iggy Pop on Monday premiered a bizarre video for his track “Sonali” that was directed by Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco.
The video shows a “lizard man” (played by Tommy Midnight, who appeared in DeMarco’s “On the Square” video) driving in a fuzzy pink convertible to get home to the titular character (played by DeMarco’s girlfriend Kiera McNally). Pop, 72, does not appear in the video.
At one point, the lizard man pulls over so he can inexplicably pretend to play a saxophone during the song’s trumpet solo by Leron Thomas.
(DeMarco must have a thing for reptilian humans – he was a lizard man in his “Nobody” video.)
“Sonali” is a track from Pop’s most recent solo album Free, which dropped in September.
