Iggy Pop has revealed that he was once so desperate to get high, he turned to spider webs.
“I tried to smoke ‘em,” the 72-year-old said during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show in London. “You know, you’ve got to start somewhere.”
Asked if spider webs provided a satisfactory buzz, Pop replied: “No, no. They were harsh.”
Ross asked Pop to confirm a rumour that he once stuck his tongue in an electrical socket in hopes of getting high. Not exactly, the rocker said. “It was an electric train transformer.”
Despite his long history of substance abuse, Pop insisted he is not surprised that he’s still alive.
“No. It's brinksmanship,” he explained. “My psychiatrist told me that in the ’70s. He said ‘you have amazing brinkmanship, you go to a certain place and you know when to pull back.’ I always have.
“I’m a very conservative guy in my daily life. I go to bed early.”
