The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball North took 20,000 people's breath away in Toronto yesterday.
The first of many we hope, Jingle Ball showcased The Weeknd for his album release and the main headliner, but also artists such as Alessia Cara, Hedley, The Chainsmokers, Serena Ryder, and Kent Jones.
The Weeknd took the stage for about an hour, which made lots of media happy.
“The enigmatic artist currently occupies the proverbial "larger than life" space in a music continuum, preserving underground cred while appealing to the perkier elements of the mainstream.” wrote Exclaim.
“In between such older hits as 'Can’t Feel My Face' and 'Earned It' and new tunes 'False Alarm' and 'I Feel It Coming,' he praised Toronto fans for their support and claimed “we’re unstoppable!” said Jane Stevenson from the Toronto Sun. “But for me it was pint-sized powerhouse Cara whose amazing vocals stood out from the rest as she belted out 'I’m Yours,' 'Wild Things,' 'Overdose,' 'Scars To Your Beautiful' and her breakthrough song, 'Here.'"
Confront Magazine was there as well:
“The night started with performers like Kent Jones, Serena Ryder & Niall Horan who gracefully opened the show as a solo singer. The transition from performer to performer was smooth, albeit with a few hiccups between stage setups for each artist I was impressed at the quick turnaround time. Brampton’s Alessia Cara took the stage with a charismatic energy, her bubbling presence was no match for the sound difficulties she was experiencing although noticeable. Cara championed through her set featuring her singles 'Wild Things' and the popular radio hit 'Here'. “Overall, the first Jingle Ball Toronto was well received, it paved the way for more opportunities to grow, add more elements including more popular acts.”
